A hybrid flowering tree bred to be drought tolerant and grows to be a small to medium ornamental tree. In the spring it produces clusters of large, trumpet-shaped pink or white flowers. A deciduous tree, but because the Chitalpa is a sterile hybrid, it does not produce seedpods. It is attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds.
